The Halewood Academy Careers Programme
Here are details of the Careers Programme in place for Halewood students.
All Halewood students will have access to the following;
A work experience placement enables students to develop their employability skills and helps them to think about jobs they could do in the future. All Year 10 students at Halewood Academy have the opportunity to go on a 2 week work experience placement in July. Lesley MacCallum has a wide range of placements for students to choose from but we do encourage students/parents to arrange their own placements (self-placement forms are available from Lesley from September of Year 10 onwards). We have links with a variety of local employers such as Marks & Spencer, Jobcentre plus, Morrisons, Kier Property, Jaguarlandrover to name but a few.
Every year we hold a number of Careers Events to give all our students the opportunity to meet with a variety of Universities, Colleges & Training Providers, as well as employers & businesses from different work areas such as Redrow, NHS, Merseyside Fire & Rescue, Titanic Hotel, Astrazenca, Knowsley Safari Park etc to discuss all their post 16 options under one roof so they can make informed decisions about their future career choices.
Other elements of the programme
Employer Partnerships secured with local businesses including Astrazeneca, CIC Ltd, DHL, Morrison’s etc; we will be working together on Work Experience for year 10’s, supporting placements, group work sessions to support CV’S, Interview techniques, employability skills etc.
Year 9, 10 & 11 to attend a widening participation days “Skills 4 U” at Liverpool John Moores University to increase awareness of University Life and what can be achieved with good GCSE’s Grades etc. Also building links with University of Liverpool to develop enrichment days for all year groups.
University Insight days for History, Law, geography, sociology and Graphics for all year groups to gain an in depth knowledge of their particular choice of subject.
Shaping Futures with themed University visits, support with potential NEET students, working with subject leaders on subject specific Career Sessions/ University visits.
Girls into Engineering, LMA took a group of girls interested in engineering to Clarke Energy to increase their knowledge in engineer and to raise aspirations day with presentations on Health & Safety, How to apply for the apprenticeship and a tour of the factory.
Various Assemblies on Apprenticeships, Employment opportunities, Progression routes from Colleges and Training Providers.
Lunchtime Career information sessions for year 11 with Training Provider opportunities, Apprenticeships childcare, business, catering, sport etc.
Future Female Leaders, Mentoring Programme with women in business mentoring girls on how to succeed in business, also Peer Mentoring
Drop in surgery every break and lunchtime for all students for careers information, advice and guidance, progression routes and opportunities available.
All year 11 students interviewed by Career Connect on a one to one basis for information advice and guidance. Also Group sessions on Apprenticeships, Progressions Routes, Interview skills etc
Working with over 200 employers to secure work experience places for year 10
Working with ELEVATE and possible NEET year 10/11 Students for a possible NEW FUTURES programme with mentoring and extended work experience placement
Careers Education delivered in all years via PSE including CV’S, Interviews, applications to college, employment etc
Cronton/Riverside Sampling Days for all year 10s attending a full day of Taster Sessions for FE subjects of their choice.
Cronton/Riverside will interview all year 11s who have applied for post 16 courses here at school, discussing entry requirements, progression routes etc
How The School Measures And Assesses The Impact Of The Careers Programme On Pupils The impact of our Careers Programme is reviewed annually between our Careers' Coordinator and the Senior Leadership Team. The review involves a benchmark exercise against the Gatsby Criteria, a review of Year 10 Work Experience and an analysis of the latest NEET figures for past year groups. The date of the next review is Summer Term 2020.
